GRACE

Grace is God's unmerited, undeserved, unearned favor. It is God's love that he shows to the sinner. Grace is the help God gives to those who cannot help themselves. That help comes in the form of the Holy Spirit. As we read through scripture we find that grace is offered both to those who are faithful and undeserving. Noah found grace in the midst of a culture that was sinful and wicked. Lot found favor in Gods eyes and was rescued from the cities of Sodom and Gamorah. The Israelites found God's favor while enslaved in Egypt.

Genesis 6:8

"But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord."

Genesis 19:19

"Behold, your servant (Lot) has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life."

Exodus 33:17

"And the Lord said to Moses, 'This very thing that you have spoken I will do, for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.'"

Proverbs 3:34

"Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he gives favor."

Ultimatley we see God's grace manifested in the person and work of Jesus Christ the second person of the trinity. Through Christ we receive grace upon grace. Through the atoning work of Christ we can receive the unmerited favor of God through the washing of our sins. Paul tells us that grace offered and received leads to discipleship and faith. Grace leads to a life of obedience living in Christ.

John 1: 14-16

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth..... For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace."

Romans 1:5

"through whom (Christ) we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,"
